Where Reflections Bring Healing, Grace and Renewal

It Starts With Us

In light of recent events, it’s heartbreaking to see how quickly people run to one side of the fence, waving their giant foam fingers and shouting accusations at the other. Bandwagons are filling fast, but not with love—rather with hate, judgment, and division.

Is this not the very spark that lit the first flames of violence? Flesh-driven emotions, unchecked, fanned into fire? Grace cannot follow where hate leads.

And yet—why are we so quick to do so? Why are we as a society so eager to point fingers instead of opening hands?

Worse still, many don’t even see it. Numb. Blind. Ignorant to the fact that they have become part of the very problem they condemn.

A Call to Pause

Let us be part of the grand solution. Let us pause in our brokenness—where emotions rise raw and unsteady—and choose differently. Choose grace. Choose love. Choose healing instead of hate.

It starts with us. Pointing at others and sidestepping our own guilt does not heal. It only keeps the embers hot, waiting to ignite into rage again.

When you feel so moved to respond or react—stop. Pause. Breathe. Dive below the surface of your emotion and ask:

Is this flesh or Spirit?

Scripture Speaks

The Bible makes the contrast clear:

Flesh:
“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy…”
Galatians 5:19–21

Spirit:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22–23

The Contrast:
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Romans 12:21

The Call:
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
Micah 6:8

The Exchange

If your emotion is anything other than healing and love—eject it. Replace it with a fruit of the Spirit.

Breathe it in. Blow out the fleshly response. Repeat until your soul feels the shift. This is how we allow God to heal the trauma inside us, so we don’t repeat it outside us.

The Real Change

The change we’re shouting about? The justice, the healing, the peace we say we want? It begins here. In me. In you.

No more excuses for “righteous anger” that just masks hate. Darkness is darkness. Infection is infection.

But light? Light heals. Love restores. Truth rebuilds.

So let’s start with us.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

— Martin Luther King, Jr.

My prayer for us all today…May we be people who breathe light into dark spaces and sow love where hate tries to root. The change the world is crying out for doesn’t begin in headlines or hashtags—it begins in our own hearts. Help us Father to awaken to the true solution which begins with us. Help us to identify and crucify our own flesh, before we continue this vicious cycle of hate. Help us to be a part of the solution, not a continuation of the problem.

Until next time, keep choosing Spirit over flesh, light over darkness, and love over hate.

With hope for humble hearts,
